In The Studio with Jill Hooper
Jill Hooper is the quintessential Artist’s Artist. A painter. A classicist. A learned master whose knowledge is sought after by art students, and whose brush strokes similarly define a collector’s quest for superlative creations.

Jill Hooper is the quintessential Artist’s Artist. A painter. A classicist. A learned master whose knowledge is sought after by art students, and whose brush strokes similarly define a collector’s quest for superlative creations.

As the youngest living artist ever to be collected by the centuries-old Gibbes Museum, with exhibitions in the UK and Italy to her credit, Jill is a master at her craft. A student of form and composition, she is also a mold-breaker whose palette knows no limits—a keen instinct that defines more than just her art. Her Charleston home, including an ethereal studio that conjures Wes Anderson’s New-Old-World scattered with elements of Flaubert’s France, is a canvas unto itself, with colors and textures and architectural details enlivened by paintings, sculptures and works in progress, as well as artifacts, books and other tactile bits of inspiration gathered over time. The result—displayed in the photo tour here—is an enchanting blend of aesthetic alchemy personalized with a few precisely laid strokes of the brush.
