A quick Google search of The Roosevelt Hotel pulls up tales of old Hollywood glamour, gone-era ghosts and Oscar parties, escapades and scandals of glory days past.
Today, however, the landmark property is very much alive, having been reborn with the help of Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe, partners in the interior firm Nickey Kehoe, who spent a huge chunk of the 2020 lockdown dusting off and reimagining the hotel’s lobby, lounge and restaurant.
“We went into the project intending to reinvigorate the personalities of these individual spaces,” the duo says. “The lobby is so historic, and had an architectural language we wanted to honor, but we also wanted to add a sense of freshness and tranquility to enhance the welcome experience and balance out the frenzied energy created by all the chaos of coming in and going out. In the lounge, too, we took cues from what was there and preserved the cozy corners and privacy-supporting low lighting, but we also injected a bit of vibrancy through furniture and design. And then for The Barish, Nancy Silverton’s restaurant, we just really sought to bring the language of both the lobby and the lounge into that area to create something inviting and warm but also light and exciting and a little unpredictable.”
The resulting three gathering spots, which inspire conviviality and comfort while also allowing for moments of solitude, intimacy and even escape, speak for themselves—or don’t, whichever the occasion (and its new generation of guests) requires.
